Los Angeles–born composer, songwriter, and artist bridges US and European television with bold, genre‑defying work
Vera Weber, a Los Angeles–born and raised composer, songwriter, and vocalist working across film, television, and contemporary music, continues to gain international attention following a series of high‑profile award nominations and an upcoming music release tied to a major European television series.
In November 2025, Weber received a Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) nomination for Best Song in a Limited Series for her song “Rosebud,” featured in Netflix’s German thriller Woman of the Dead (Die Totenfrau), Season 2. The category was among the most competitive of the year, with Weber emerging as a surprise underdog nominee alongside global superstars including Lady Gaga, Evanescence, and Twenty One Pilots, with the award ultimately going to Lady Gaga.
“Rosebud,” released via Milan Records (Sony Music France), was written and performed by Weber, with composition by Weber and longtime collaborator Caleb Veazey. The song functions as a powerful queer anthem within the series, written for a trans character portrayed by trans actress Hayal Kaya, who also performs a cover of the song in a pivotal on‑screen scene. Weber served as the composer for the series’ songs, writing three original tracks, all of which appear on the official soundtrack album.
Weber’s momentum continues into 2026 with an upcoming nomination at the German Television Academy Awards (Deutsche Akademie für Fernsehen), taking place in late February. She is nominated for Best Original Score in a TV Film for Die Stille Am Ende der Nacht (The Stillness at the End of the Night), a 90‑minute thriller produced by Network Movie GmbH for ZDF and directed by Lars Gunnar Lotz. Weber co‑composed the score alongside acclaimed composer Matthias Weber, known for his work on Das Boot (Sky/Hulu) and multiple Academy Award–winning feature films.
The score stands out for its unconventional approach, heavily featuring Vera Weber’s vocals woven into suspense‑driven, techno‑ and pop‑influenced thriller arrangements.
Earlier this winter, Weber was also nominated at Televisionale Weimar (December 2025) for Best Film Music in a TV Film or Series for Ewig Dein (Forever Yours), a thriller directed by Johanna Moder, a Berlinale Golden Bear nominee. The film was produced by Tivoli Film GmbH and Mona Film GmbH for ZDF and ORF. The nomination reflects Weber’s ongoing presence within Europe’s television music landscape.
Alongside her award recognition, Weber is set to release new music in early January 2026 connected to the upcoming ZDF Neo series Take the Money and Run, produced by pyjama pictures GmbH. The series, premiering January 5, explores the true‑crime story of Ruja Ignatova, the infamous Bulgarian‑German “Cryptoqueen” and one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives.
The end‑title song “Satan’s Advice,” releasing January 3, was written specifically for the series and is inspired by Ignatova’s extravagant, globe‑trotting life and eventual downfall. The track marks the debut release of Candy as a Nun, a new indie‑pop project by Weber and guitarist/composer Caleb Veazey, with the pair sharing songwriting duties equally. Weber performs lead vocals on the song. While the series’ original score will not be released as a soundtrack, “Satan’s Advice” serves as a standalone artistic statement drawn directly from the show’s themes.
Weber’s compositional style fuses contemporary popular music with cinematic scoring, incorporating layered vocal production, strings, choir, synths, guitars, percussion, and experimental textures. Her work has drawn comparisons to composers such as Mica Levi, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Jonny Greenwood, and Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, while her songwriting aligns with artists like Sharon Van Etten, Beach House, and Billie Eilish.
Based in Los Angeles with deep professional roots in Germany and Austria, Vera Weber continues to build a transatlantic career that challenges genre boundaries and brings emotionally charged, culturally resonant music to the screen.
