UK-based Kaleidoscope Orchestra has released Through the Clouds, a soaring new single blending cinematic orchestration, dream pop textures, and electronic energy. The track marks a key moment in the lead-up to the collective’s debut album of original music, Moments Between, arriving later this year.
Through the Clouds began in 2019, composed by Steve Pycroft during a flight from Aberdeen to London. Initially inspired by Hollow Coves’ “Patience”, Pycroft sought to capture the sense of wonder and liberation that comes with flying, bridging the worlds of drum & bass and Americana-infused soft rock. After experimenting with multiple grooves and arrangements, Pycroft invited longtime collaborator Alex Dee to contribute lyrics and vocals.
At the time, Dee had just become a father, and he wrote lyrics that reflect the profound moment of witnessing his son open his eyes for the first time. This perspective reshaped the track’s trajectory, leading to a complete re-orchestration, enriched with a distinctive “4 over 6” drum groove. New orchestral recordings in August 2024 brought the piece to life, culminating in the finished version early this year.

About Kaleidoscope Orchestra
Kaleidoscope Orchestra (KO) is a pioneering UK-based collective redefining orchestral music for modern audiences. Known for bold reimaginings of electronic and pop tracks, KO combines sweeping symphonic arrangements with the pulse of contemporary genres, creating soundscapes that are cinematic, emotional, and electrifying.
Founded and directed by Steve Pycroft, the group first gained recognition with their viral 2012 video Skrillex Suite and have since built a loyal following of over 86,000 YouTube subscribers and 12 million+ views. KO’s orchestral reinterpretations of artists such as Fred Again.., Avicii, Foo Fighters, and The Prodigy have garnered critical acclaim and led to collaborations with Cream, Q-Dance, Cupra, Camelphat, Skrillex, and Flux Pavilion.
Beyond the studio, KO has performed at prestigious venues and festivals, including Creamfields, Parklife, Liverpool Cathedral, Sheffield City Hall, and Manchester Academy. Their forthcoming album, Moments Between (2025), marks their first body of original compositions, exploring themes of joy, struggle, memory, and the human condition.
The orchestra also advocates for mental health awareness in the music industry, with projects such as Just Breathe addressing the pressures faced by musicians. Past tributes include emotional performances honoring Avicii, Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), and Keith Flint (The Prodigy).
