FREE/MAN Releases “Redemption Song”: A Soulful Reinterpretation Rooted in Healing and Freedom

London-based singer-songwriter FREE/MAN (Charlie Freeman) unveils “Redemption Song,” a deeply moving reinterpretation of Bob Marley’s timeless classic, reimagined through his own alt-soul/rock lens. Stripped back, heartfelt, and spiritually charged, the release stands as both a tribute and a personal statement, one that reflects Freeman’s ongoing exploration of truth, freedom, and collective healing.
Known for his melodic sensitivity and emotional honesty, FREE/MAN approaches Redemption Song not as a cover, but as a conversation across generations. His version retains the song’s core message of liberation while infusing it with warmth drawn from ’70s rock ‘n’ roll, Britpop soul, and Americana intimacy. The result is a reverent yet contemporary take, understated, powerful, and profoundly human.
The single appears on Freeman’s latest EP, Reconnection, a 14-minute, four-track project that marks a moment of artistic reaffirmation. Across the EP, which also features Not Tomorrow, Bluebird, and Two Witches, Freeman leans into music’s ability to reconnect us with ourselves and one another. Redemption Song sits at the emotional heart of the release, encapsulating its themes of resilience, acceptance, and spiritual awakening.
Reconnection also sets the tone for Freeman’s forthcoming full-length album, Gift In The Shadows, due at the end of 2025. Described by the artist as his “most personal work to date,” the album will further explore redemption, inner freedom, and finding light through adversity.
