We Chat To Artist, YouTuber & Host - Falliey

Falliey has recently released his EP 'Locked On', and we were delighted to talk to him about all things music, artistic inspiration and his various creative projects. Let's get to know Falliey...

Hey, how you doing? Please introduce yourself!

Hey, thanks for having me, things are going well, can't complain haha. I’m Falliey, I’d call myself an all-round content creator? A Jack of all Trades? Something like that. I’m currently working on music, youtube videos, podcast episodes and general social media content. I started making YouTube videos in 2009 and since then I’ve been on and off across probably 15 different channels aha. Name the content I’ve probably made it aha, that's all offline now though. I’ve had an interest in creating music, mostly through my brother, since 2012. At the start of this year I decided to give everything a real go and here we are so far.

What inspired your EP?

The current climate and lockdown restrictions gave me an opportunity to get my things in order both in life and creatively. I struggled a lot with some personal issues at the beginning of the year during the creation of my first mixtape, ‘PicknMix’ in January that followed through to just as lockdown became a thing. Having that time to get ‘Locked On’ to what was important was what inspired me to work on the EP.

What is your favourite track and why?

You’re putting me on the spot here… I worked with amazing talent creating these tracks; Baby Panna featuring on Whip, Sam O’D featuring on Pressure (produced by my good friend Spirxl) & Silky F featuring on Balance. They all gave the tracks the secret ingredients they needed. I don’t think I could pick one. Like my friend Nimi said, and I quote “It’s sick ‘cause it’s got all three; energy, chills and vibes”.

What is the first record you bought?

Haha okay, well, see… I don’t think I ever have bought a record… at least with my own money. By the time bluetooth faded out and we couldn’t send music to each other, music was up on YouTube and a little later on streaming platforms. If you’re asking me what was the first record I streamed, then it was definitely a track off of Kanye West’s Late Registration.

What is your idea of a great gig if money was no object? Describe your dream show!

Definitely have a long way until this is a possibility but I do think about it. As someone whose interests are not only music, I think how I would go about a show would be quite different. I’m going to keep it to myself for now though, hope you don’t mind haha.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has not heard your music?

Both as an artist and a listener I take interest in a lot of different genres. I believe my music reflects that on both of my projects this year - each track has a different vibe. I don’t want to put myself in a box because as a person I’m experimental. I’m a risk taker so whatever vibe I’m feeling when the right beat plays that’s what I make - I try not to overthink it and go with the flow.

What is your creative process like?

I wouldn’t say I have an over complicated process when it comes to music. First I’ll search days for a beat, contact my producer friends for beats then listen and listen and listen. Eventually when the right beat lands I begin to write the hook, I always write the hook first haha. I enjoy writing alone for clarity. After the lyrics are written, which can take a day, a week or 10 minutes, it’s time to record, mix and master. 95% of my music has been created with Zack at WRS Studios. I think I annoy him, though he won’t say it. I’m the “one more take”, “actually I dunno”, “what if we start the mix over again” type of person but we have a great time and we’ll both agree that we get there in the end. Big shout out to him.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Too many artists to list but someone whose music I really appreciate in this scene is One Acen. I believe he’s one of the most underrated musicians in the ‘UK Rap/HipHop’ scene. I relate to his story and his hooks are second to none. I’d like to collab with One Acen. I’ll show him this when it happens haha.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

I’d say Kanye but let’s be a little more realistic. This might be controversial but I’d say KSI. Hear me out, I know a lot of people discount him as an artist but he has charted several times and has a fan base that knows and cares about him. A lot of artists can’t say that. His shows sell out and look dope. I’ll be showing KSI this when I open a show for him.

What have you got coming up?!

I’m working on new music, hopefully we can go again in September. Until then, I have a lot of YouTube videos coming out, collaborating with some great talent. I’m hosting a show which starts shooting this month. Like always releasing episodes of my solo podcast. Plus the launch of my business which I won’t talk too much about. A lot of fun things!
