Despite being new to the industry, Elizma's blend of deeply profound lyrics combined with her dynamic vocal ability is in line with the great vocalists of the past. Elizma is a young singer-songwriter who, at the inception of her career, has just begun releasing her original music. However, her songwriting ability transcends her years, speaking to the innermost workings of the heart. Her lyrics emphasize introspection; as her voice soars from powerful belts and high arias to fragile whispers, she captures the raw emotion behind each song and carefully delivers it to the listener. Elizma is dedicated to her craft, and she is determined to show the world she has what it takes to carry the torch into the next generation of music.
Welcome to the Decent Music PR blog. Please introduce yourself. And how would you describe your music?
Hey everyone, I’m Elizma, nice to meet you. My name is a combination of the musical term, “Melisma” and my real name, Elizabeth. My music is like Freddie Mercury’s, in the sense that it spans multiple genres, yet you can always tell it’s an Elizma song by how distinct the vocals are. I like to write dramatic music that makes the listener think. Sometimes I get inspiration from people close to me but most of the time, my songs are about my personal experiences with finding myself, relationships, addiction/recovery, and – there’s that one about coffee.
Who are your biggest influences?
Lady Gaga, Freddie Mercury, Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, Evanescence, Adele
Who do you create music for, and what messages do you want people to get from your music?
I create for myself, and I release it in the hopes that it resonates with people. The songs are mine until I give them to the world. I can write the song meaning one thing and people will tailor it to their own lives. I just hope that my songs help someone heal.
If you could imagine the best moment for a first-time listener to listen to your music, what would it be?
Hmm. This is tricky… I think the best moment for a first-time listener could be hearing a line that resonates with them at that particular time. It could be a line that prompts them to make a change in their life or it could be a line that makes them see something in their life from a different perspective. But hell, even if you just find yourself lost in my song, I think that’s a win.
What is one song that you wish you wrote yourself, and why?
I wish that I wrote Chappell Roan’s recent discography because I love how fun her music is! Plus, it would be so fun to perform “Hot to Go” and “Pink Pony Club”. I am yearning to write another lighthearted and happy song but writing happy songs doesn’t come as easy to me. Maybe I’ll get there, but for now you guys have to reflect with me, haha.
What have you learned from your artistry through the years?
I’ve learned that failure is like medicine. In most cases, I can’t get better if I don’t fail. I’ve also learned to be mindful of who is giving me advice. There are people that don’t want to see me succeed who offer advice willingly. On the other hand, there’s people who genuinely believe they are giving me good advice, but coming from their lens, that advice won’t work for me or my career. Lastly, I’ve learned that there must be a balance between pouring myself into my craft and taking time to appreciate the beauty in the world around me. I have to remember that at any moment, everything I have is fleeting in the game of time.
