Marquette King’s single ‘Party With Me’ is a sexy, mellow dance track that you won’t be able to get out of your head. A self-proclaimed ‘pop-hop’ (a mixture of pop and hip-hop) artist originally from Georgia, USA but now based in Scottsdale, AZ, King is multi-talented. He began his career on the football pitch, first as an NFL punter, playing for the Oakland Raiders and later for the Denver Broncos.
Though King has always had a passion for making music, when his sports career started to take off he had no option but to put it to one side. Since taking time off due to injury, however, King has finally had a chance to focus on his music and has been busy writing a catalogue of dance tracks. He fuses together EDM, House and his treasured Pop-Hop genre to create energetic anthems to get you in the mood for a good time. ‘Party With Me’ is no exception. A sultry walking bass line underpins vocal chops, King’s smooth singing, as well as a rap feature from fellow US artist Va-Cay.
'Party With Me' is a tongue-in-cheek song about finding someone new to have a good time with, and also about ambition, and moving forwards in to the future - ‘I just wanna change lanes, tired of doing same things, don’t wanna go back to the past’. It’s also about celebrating a sense of freedom and enjoying your younger years. King already knows what it is to be a success, yet what’s striking is that injury has not prevented him from fulfilling new ambitions, this time in music.
It’s refreshing to hear a new take on familiar genres - this ‘pop-hop’ thing that King has going on is working really nicely that’s for sure. Go have a dance in your bedroom to ‘Party With Me’ now, and get ready for when lockdown lifts.
